Description

Burrell 7 N.H.P DCC WORKS No3159, the Gladiator Showman’s road locomotive was delivered new to Anderton & Rowland’s on 16th December 1909. To move their shows and roundabouts around cities, towns and villages of the West Country the firm bought a fleet of Showman’s road locomotives and from 1904 to 1937 Anderton & Rowland’s owned some fifteen magnificent road locomotives. The Gladiator was put to work with the Venetian Gondolas switchback ride hence the name on the side of the side of the livery. In 1932 this locomotive was sold by Anderton & Rowland's to Thomas Whitelegg of Plymouth to haul and power his American radio dodgems.
