Ford purchased Italian coachbuilder Ghia in 1970 and by the mid-seventies had followed BMC's lead (with Vanden Plas) and turned their well known coach building brand into an upmarket trim level to replace their previous E moniker. When launched in 1977 the Granada Ghia modelled was the most expensive car Ford produced and cost £7315.
For their money the buyer received a comprehensive level of standard equipment including stylish alloy wheels, fuel injection, sumptuous cloth seats, wood trim on the doors and dashboard, thick pile carpet and that all important Ghia heraldry on the wings and boot-lid, giving it status in the company car park.
