The G.T.S. Finnjet that went into service in 1977 counted as the largest passenger ferry and still holds the record as the fastest and most powerful conventional ferry in the world. Due to her unique gas turbine power plant that takes the vessel to a top speed of 30.5 knots in just 3 minutes, the 1,145 km journey from Travemünde to Helsini takes less than 24 hours. There is accommodation for about 1,800 passengers and 380 vehicles on 9 decks.
