In 1977, Derek Linch was working as a lorry driver for Alford Transport based in Rye, East Sussex, and Derek was made redundant. With a wife and two children to support, he made the brave decision to start his own business. Using a combination of £500 from his father and hard earned savings, he managed to purchase a 1969 Leyland Super Comet 4-wheel rigid. Two years on, a second truck was purchased and younger brother Garry joined the company. Based on Romney Marsh meant the company was ideally situated to haul the much-farmed potatoes across the country. As more vehicles were acquired, other vegetables and fruit were transported. Now, under the control of Derek Carr, the company hauls between the UK and the rest of Europe, whilst the workshop and MOT centre is managed by Derek’s brother, Garry Linch.
